a cool story for you
we went down to the Cities today to take my mom to the airport, and on the way back we stopped for dinner at this little sandwiches/pizza/pasta place and the guy who owns it came out to say hello after our food arrived and he looked exactly like Wayne Rooney suddenly my spaghetti was not as appetizing

up north, at the lake
and life is bliss my sister and I went for a run this morning around the lake, and it was fantastic watching the USA-North Korea match in a few minutes I can sleep and read and eat and basically do whatever I want we’re going to the Cities in a few days, and despite the terrible run the Twins have been on (they lost to the Dodgers last night 15-0, ouch), I’m hoping they’ll...

I still haven’t packed and we’re leaving tomorrow at 7 a.m. I strained my right hamstring the other night at practice and stupidly decided to run extra sprints today, only making the problem worse. So now I’m limited to jogging for the next week or so. three weeks with no one to see but my family, yikes The anti-itch pills I’ve been taking for my suddenly-out-of-control...

Leaving tomorrow for vacation.
And thank goodness I won’t be spending most of the trip in the Cities, like I did last year. (Although we are going down for a day to pick up my mom and my sister’s friend from the airport—and to see a Twins game, hallelujah. JOE MAUER, PLEASE STAY OFF THE DL SO I CAN FINALLY SEE YOU PLAY IN PERSON.) We’ll be on the lake, and I can needlepoint and read and listen to the new...

I hate Chelsea and am indifferent to Porto.
But wow, André Villas-Boas might be the most attractive manager in all of football right now. (Pep, don’t worry, you’re still a silver fox.) Hands on the hips, à la Guardiola. Training is srs bsns. A ginger beard! BE STILL MY HEART oh lord, the shallowness reigns supreme

swallowing-matches: The amount of Supernatural in my Richard Siken tracked tag will never fail to make me sad. I mean, I don’t mind the Siken inspired stuff, but when people start saying it actually has something to do with Supernatural, that is when the claws come out. Especially when people say it is obviously inspired by the the show. I don’t even care if you are kidding. Please do a minimal...

A few thoughts on WAGs, weight, and football fans.
Sometimes when I’m tooling around on tumblr, I stumble across “thinspo” (ugh, that word) blogs through my tracked tags or through another person’s blog. Random pictures of incredibly skinny girls pop up on my dash from time to time, which, I suppose, is a hazard of following a lot of football-related blogs, because naturally they post pictures of players and their WAGs. And...

Arachne was a great mortal weaver who boasted that her skill was greater than that of Minerva, the Latin parallel of Pallas Athena, goddess of wisdom and crafts. Arachne refused to acknowledge that her knowledge came, in part at least, from the goddess. The offended goddess set a contest between the two weavers. According to Ovid, the goddess was so envious of the magnificent tapestry and the...

it’s not mathematical. you always liked precision, I know that, but it’s not. would it be so wrong to call it beautiful? not the terrible, unyielding beauty you know so well, but something more unfinished. a problem incomplete, a line drawn without a straightedge. a certain schizophrenic beauty. I’m not sure I could recognize perfect symmetry anyway—only the whispers of it, spun glass shot through...

A few thoughts on Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca
….aka the novel with the dubious honor of being the book that most scared the shit out of the thirteen-year-old me. Yeah, Rebecca is fantastically creepy: a modern Gothic romance, complete with an elaborate mansion, murder, a Byronic hero (or villain, if you prefer), a gigantic fire, some pretty blatant homosexual and bisexual undertones, Oedipal and Electran implications, and one of the...

USA-Canada tonight in Detroit bring it, northern neighbors in other news….at LFC, Jordan Henderson in, Ngog out. I rate Henderson, but no way is he worth 20 million, which is what we’re reportedly paying for him. Sets a bad precedent, price-wise, for the rest of the summer transfer window.
