I hate that I'm anxious about this.
I hate that I’ll never be able to truly let myself relax.
I hate that it is such a fucking ordeal for me, when there is nothing to fear.
I hate worrying that I’ll never be over it.
I hate my stupid anxious tendencies about everything. I’m essentially worried about being worried: how pitiful is that?
I hate that I hate doing this.

Why do I do this to myself?
I’m watching a meaningless preseason friendly. Most of the starting XI will not get anywhere near the first team. The stream is in Turkish and I can’t understand a word. What we do in this match doesn’t matter at all.
Yet I am annoyed because we suck so much.

Today has been confusing.
We had practice 6-8 A.M. I was only conscious for about the last third of it.
I came home, showered, ate breakfast, and puttered about for a couple of hours, then went upstairs to read The Bloody Chamber in bed. I ended falling asleep, which isn’t surprising, as I had four hours of sleep last night. And…I just woke up. Whoops. Unexpected four hour nap.
The most confusing part:...
2011-12 fantasy EPL team
After two hours of deliberation…
Reina, Al-Habsi
Cahill, Kompany, Zabaleta, Jose Enrique, Coloccini
Wilshere, Lucas, Song, Van der Vaart, Jarvis
Suarez, Van Persie, Ameobi
I wanted Modric/Downing in MF and Vidic/Baines/David Luiz at the back, but as it is I’m barely squeaking by due to Suarez/RVP/VDV.
Team name…haven’t gotten that far yet.

Assorted thoughts on today's preseason friendly...
Obligatory PRESEASON IS ONLY ABOUT FITNESS; KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON comment.
Seriously, keep calm. The starting XI included a number of players who will not see significant first-team action unless we are Arsenal-level cursed when it comes to injuries to key players. (Let us take a moment to pray that this will not be the case.) All three goals were the result of defensive lapses by relatively...

Appalled by what has happened in Norway today.
I saw the news break on Twitter this morning, but then I was out of the house midday and took a 4-hour nap when I came home around 2. I knew about the bombings, but the shootings at the youth camp outside Oslo happened later.
This is sickening. Prayers for all those affected—especially the terrified kids at the camp, and the family/friends of those who were killed/injured.

…and I still rage so much that Jo and Laurie didn’t get married.
I mean, I know Louisa May Alcott did that intentionally to piss off her readers and to show that Jo was independent and a ~free spirit (even if she did get married eventually) and didn’t need a man to be happy.
But come on.

Gardy loses bet to Nishioka
battingcleanup:
Player and manager had wagered before the women’s World Cup final, played Sunday in Germany, that the loser would have to wear a T-shirt expressing love for the other’s country.
Japan beat the USA in penalty kicks, so Ron Gardenhire had to wear this:
(via BLS)
Reporters asked Gardy what Nishioka would have worn if the USA had won, he said a shirt saying “I love American...

You can now call yourself a violent, vitriolic, sexist idiot of a footballer! And feel free to add ‘racist’ to that list of unflattering adjectives, too, as you just referred to the Japan women’s national team as ‘Japs.’

we love you Liverpool, we do
…but considerably less so when we have to get up at 5:45 A.M. to watch you play.
Still, good to see everyone back in action. Some nice pass-and-move action showing through occasionally, with Aquilani looking very good at times and Kuyt, as usual, running like its a Premiership match. Cole looked knackered after 10 minutes (no surprise there) and Meireles was poor. And I hate to say it,...
