I’m probably losing a lot of ~indie cred here, but at some point I just want to like the music I listen to for what it is, you know? And while I recognize that One Direction are largely a product of Simon Cowell’s scheming, overly-inflated head—and that they’re not original or innovative by any stretch—that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy their music. Because you’re right, it’s really catchy, and I enjoy listening to it, and I should be able to listen to music I enjoy without people judging me for it.
To use a food analogy, because I am all about the food, as you know, it’s like a cheeseburger: I like cheeseburgers and I enjoy eating them from time to time, but certainly I wouldn’t want to have them all the time. I recognize that they are not necessarily the most substantive food out there, nor are they particularly nutritious. There’s probably some unsavory stuff that went into the making of my cheeseburger, and I’m not particularly interested in finding out how it was made. There are a lot of vegetarians out there (not all vegetarians, mind you), food purists who judge the living daylights out of me for enjoying my cheeseburger. I know I could be eating something healthier, and I don’t usually indulge myself, but damn it, sometimes I just want a cheeseburger, and I don’t care what other people think if I eat one. Because…they are tasty. And so are British boy bands. /badmetaphor
